Continue being part of crystallizing this vision!

We made it! The universe aligned and with the support of MANY we have been building a vision at the Kawamoto-Wipala Farm. GRACIAS THANK YOU TO EVERYONE THAT HAS SUPPORTED US.

Here we want to share a reflection inspired by the transition process and for Master Winter

Our Strategies to Build a Sustainable Future:

Homestead

Goal: To continue and keep alive the traditional ways of family farming and homesteading. Our homestead component aims to provide stable, safe, and affordable housing for homesteaders that have experienced home instability and insecurity on a chronic level.

Education

Goal: To provide a space where people can come and learn the skills needed for succession farming, land conservation, sustainable living and community building. In our education component we understand how important is to give to the new generations hands-on training, so as part of the holistic management of the land we propose to implement a farmer apprenticeship program. Given the unique conditions of the farm we will focus in rain-fed agriculture techniques.

Organic Production for Direct Marketing

Goal: To secure the economic sustainability of our operation we plan to produce: food, fruits, flowers, and seeds for homestead and direct sales marketing . We plan to involve the community as a very important stakeholder through different direct marketing strategies, we can divide them in a) In-Farm Direct Marketing: Farm stand, U-pick operation, and culinary agrotourism. Given the fact that we are non-traditional farm owners and operators, we trust that will have the ability to connect with multicultural families and meet their nutritional needs, as well as making them feel very welcome to visit the farm and be part of our agrotourism experiences

Conservation and Land Management

Goal: We plan to steward the forest informed by the technical knowledge of local experts including farmers!. We also plan to offer low impact camping sites and educational hiking

Eco/Agro Tourism

Goal: To offer on a regular basis an open space to the community to experience the therapeutic effect of farming and being in the countryside, while learning about land stewardship and the historical events related to the Kawamoto Family Farm and the history of agriculture in the USA. We also want to provide culinary agrotourism experiences

Our Core Principles:

Our Values

Land sovereignty led by the ones that historically have been denied access in the USA context

Active building of spiritual, emotional, physical and mental health at the individual, community and environmental level

Care for the Earth-Pachamama and the beings who inhabit her

Reciprocity with Earth-Pachamama, living in synchronicity with the natural cycles of time.

Compassionate and effective resolution of problems

Commitment and belonging to the land we steward

Focus, dedication and hard work, creativity, artistry, and beauty, family centered, celebration of life, simplicity, integrity, service

Our Mission

To not take a minute of life for granted; not extracting from life that which we think we need or deserve – but celebrating, through creative action and loving relating, the beauty and potential around us by maintaining and producing a quality organic sustainable environment where food and people can grow. As an intentional community, we aim to express that which we see in our mind’s eye while encouraging others to be more self actualized, think more universally and choose life affirming activities which take care of the Self, Earth- Pachamama, community and generations to come

Our Vision

We will produce food, fruits flowers, and seeds for ourselves and our close community

We will have an economically viable business based on producing goods and services that support conservation and regeneration of natural resources and holistic health of our surrounding community

We will be running a locally-recognized apprenticeship program in Agroecology and Food Justice

We will have infrastructure fully developed to have a thriving food forest and a functional management plan that maximizes production and minimize carbon footprint in our greenhouses, barns and production fields

We will have a team of well trained people in sustainable food systems that will contribute to maintain a healthy food system in the farm and with the ability to start their own food system

Strategic Goals

Establish a productive fruit tree orchard that serves our direct marketing strategy and provides environmental services to the surrounding community

Have an adequate irrigation/growing plan based on a water catchment system and dry farming techniques suitable for the amount and sources of water available in the farm

Have a protocol for use and maintenance of all the infrastructure and supplies needed to consolidate the goals of this project

Establish markets and marketing strategies for all our upcoming goods and services.

Offer a land stewardship and homesteading apprenticeship program recognized for being diverse and inclusive to the national and international community

Have a thriving homestead project that make us feel belonging and positive sense of self

We are working hard to reactivate the farm and open the doors to the community. We hope to see you soon!
